Cookies Policy

Last updated: May 26, 2026

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device. They let the site remember things between visits — for example, whether you have accepted this notice, whether you prefer the light or dark theme, or whether you have signed in. We also use a few similar technologies (localStorage and sessionStorage) for the same purposes; this policy covers all of them collectively as “cookies.”

2. The cookies we use

2.1 Strictly necessary

These are required for the site to work and cannot be turned off. They do not identify you to anyone outside CafeRadar.

  • cr_cookie_consent — stores your choice about analytics cookies so we do not show you this banner on every visit. Set in localStorage, kept until you clear it.
  • theme — remembers whether you have selected the light or dark theme. Set in localStorage.
  • Clerk authentication cookies — used only if you sign in to the merchant or admin portal. These keep your session secure and are set by our auth provider, Clerk.

2.2 Optional — analytics

These help us understand how people use the site so we can improve it. They only load if you click Accept all in the cookie banner. They do not run if you reject or ignore the banner.

  • PostHog — a privacy- respecting analytics tool. Captures aggregate usage events (which page you viewed, which app-store button you tapped) and sets a random visitor identifier. Autocapture is disabled and no replay recordings are taken on this website. Data is sent to PostHog's US-region instance and processed under their privacy policy.

3. Third-party cookies on cafe pages

Individual café pages (e.g. /cafe/...) embed Google Maps to show the café's location. Google may set its own cookies when its map renders, governed by Google's privacy policy. We do not control these cookies and rejecting analytics here does not stop them — if you want to avoid them, do not load cafe pages or use your browser's third-party cookie controls.

4. Managing your preferences

You can change your choice at any time. Use the button below to reset your selection — the cookie banner will appear again on your next page load so you can choose afresh.

You can also clear cookies and site data directly in your browser settings, or use private/incognito browsing to start without any.

5. What about the mobile app?

The CafeRadar mobile app does not use browser cookies. It uses SecureStore for credentials and AsyncStorage for preferences on your device. Analytics in the app are described in our Privacy Policy.

6. Changes to this policy

If we add new cookies or change how existing ones are used we will update this page and, where the change is material, show the consent banner again so you can review.
