Best Coffee Shops in Amsterdam 2026
Amsterdam's specialty coffee scene punches well above its weight. Canal-side roasters, cozy neighborhood spots, and some of the best filter coffee in Europe.
Best Coffee Shops in Amsterdam 2026
Let's get this out of the way: this is not a guide to those coffee shops. This is about actual coffee. And Amsterdam has some of the best in Europe.
The city's specialty scene is compact but deep. Dutch roasters have been winning international competitions for years, and the cafe culture here blends Scandinavian minimalism with Dutch warmth.
Centrum & De Pijp
Lot Sixty One on Kinkerstraat roasts their own beans and serves them in a minimalist space that feels more Tokyo than Amsterdam. Their espresso is bright, clean, and precisely dialed. Filter options change weekly.
Scandinavian Embassy lives up to its name. Nordic design, Nordic roasts, and open-faced sandwiches. The coffee is sourced from top Scandinavian roasters like Tim Wendelboe and Drop Coffee.
Bocca Coffee in De Pijp has been roasting since 2004, long before specialty was trendy. Their flagship cafe is welcoming and unpretentious. Try the seasonal blend.
Jordaan & West
White Label Coffee near Westerpark is a local institution. Industrial space, house-roasted beans, and a brunch menu that draws crowds on weekends. Their cold brew in summer is outstanding.
Toki on Binnen Dommersstraat is tiny and beloved. Japanese-inspired, with meticulous pour-overs and a calm, focused atmosphere.
Oost & Noord
De Wasserette in Oost doubles as a cafe and laundromat. Sounds odd, works perfectly. Good coffee, pastries, and something to do while your clothes spin.
Coffee Virus in Noord (across the free ferry from Central Station) is worth the trip. A true neighborhood cafe with excellent filter coffee and a welcoming vibe.
What Sets Amsterdam Apart
Dutch coffee culture values precision and clean flavors. Lighter roasts dominate. Many cafes offer tasting notes and origin information without being pretentious about it. The scene is small enough that baristas know each other and collaborate regularly.
Practical tips:
- Most specialty cafes open at 8am or 9am and close by 5pm or 6pm
- Wi-Fi is standard everywhere
- Card payments are universal, but some places still prefer Dutch Maestro/debit cards
- Bike there. Always bike there. This is Amsterdam.
