Best Coffee Shops in Berlin 2026

Berlin's coffee scene reflects the city itself: unpretentious, creative, and constantly evolving. Roasters here tend toward light, complex profiles. Cafes range from sleek Scandinavian-style spaces to grungy converted workshops. The common thread is quality.

Kreuzberg

Kreuzberg is Berlin's coffee heartland. More specialty roasters per square kilometer than almost anywhere in Europe.

The Barn on Schönleinstraße is one of Germany's most respected roasters. Their cafe is minimal, focused, and serious about extraction. No milk alternatives with the single-origin espresso, and that's fine. The beans speak for themselves.

Five Elephant on Reichenberger Straße roasts on-site and bakes one of Berlin's best cheesecakes. The space is large enough to work from without feeling cramped.

Companion Coffee is a neighborhood staple. Friendly staff, a solid house blend, and a relaxed vibe that keeps you coming back.

Mitte

Bonanza Coffee Heroes operates a stunning roastery in a converted power station. The cafe serves their own roasts alongside guest beans. Worth visiting just for the architecture.

Chapter One near Hackescher Markt is small but focused. Their filter coffee menu changes daily, and the baristas are happy to talk you through the options.

Neukölln

Populus Coffee on Maybachufer is a community favorite. Bright, plant-filled, and right next to the Turkish Market. Great oat milk flat whites and a solid rotation of guest roasters.

Oslo Kaffebar in northern Neukölln brings Norwegian cafe culture to Berlin. Cozy, warm, and the cinnamon buns are excellent.

Prenzlauer Berg & Friedrichshain

Father Carpenter in Prenzlauer Berg is set in a converted courtyard. Australian-style brunch meets Berlin coffee culture. The space is gorgeous and the coffee is consistently good.

Silo Coffee on Gabriel-Max-Straße is another Australian import. Big windows, good vibes, and a pour-over menu that rewards exploration.

Berlin Coffee Culture

Berliners take their coffee seriously but casually. Laptops are welcome at most cafes. Many spots open early and stay open late. Oat milk is the default alternative at most specialty shops.

Prices are reasonable. Expect to pay €3-4 for a flat white, €4-5 for a pour-over. Cash-only spots still exist, so carry some euros.

Sundays are prime cafe days. Many Berliners treat Sunday brunch as sacred, so arrive early or expect a wait at popular spots.
